Irish Life Medal Design, Race Series 2024

In Dublin city we are lucky to be able to interact with nature on a regular basis. Some may find the birds and other wildlife to be obtrusive but I think they bring a second life to the city that we would sorely miss if they were gone. I want to celebrate them through the medal design.

The fallow deer from the Phoenix park became a focal point for the medal with the antlers being used as a frame for the ribbon to loop through. The deer themselves have been around since the 1660’s and were imported from Great Britain. Presently, the wild herd makes up roughly 600 individuals.

Dublin obviously has many more wild animals to offer, in this medal design I’ve included ones we’ve probably all encountered at least once like a red squirrel or every day like pigeons and seagulls. My hope is that this medal design inspires the participants of the marathon to reminisce about the course they’ve just finished through the animals of our city.
